Huawei wifi router & USB mobile broadband modem integration

One of the features of Huawei HG655b router / home gateway / residential gateway (RGW) is ability to failover internet connection to USB mobile broadband. This RGW has main capability for internet service (HSI), Voice over IP (VOIP) and IPTV (connected to Set Top Box). It also support for ADSL and VDSL connection.

I had opportunity to test all the functionality before release to our (QTel) customer,  but this time i will write how i tested RGW fail over to USB mobile broadband. (currently Qtel customers are using Thomson modem for their ADSL connection)

Failover to USB modem will be useful whenever your DSL line is down or not connected to internet (due to problem or whatever) then you will be automatically connected to internet via USB mobile broadband (connecting internet via mobile/cellular network). Figure below describe how it looks like.

Configuration is quite simple, you just provide APN, username, and password of your mobile broadband account. Here are the steps:
- open router admin GUI in web browser, type http://192.168.1.1
- type your username and password (default: admin/admin)
- select Basic configuration and go to WAN. Type APN, username, and password of your mobile broadband service. Figure below shows mobile broadband configuration. It also describes that i am still connected to internet thru DSL connection.

- now, disconnect (unplug) your DSL line/cable then router will automatically fail over the connection to USB modem. First it will be authenticating then connected. See figure below.

Your USB modem is now connected but has private IP address (10.x.x.x), enter your APN username & password, click submit button then you will have public IP address. Now you can still browse the internet thru your router wifi (SSID) even though your DSL connection down :)

Which is better the old Thomson or the new huawei?

i just switched from the old thomson to the new Huawei. I still can't tell which is shittier than the other...
I wish Qtel would let us use whichever router we want for Mosaic TV+

Has anyone configured Qtel's Huawei HG655b router for built in sip/voip. if so pls forward the informations.

@Lyas, you can create additional WAN connection from GUI. ATM from ADSL and PTM for VDSL, set service type to voice and provide required information such as username, password. Btw, it will be part of offered service later for VDSL / fiber.

@riza.. Can you please send me a user guide to configure VOIP account on Home Gateway... Thank you

@riza thanx for useful info, i have able to configure my voipdiscount sip account. but the voice quality is not that clear. do u think any settings needs to change? if you know pls post your comment.
